Mozart's OVERT-ture

What happens when you put Mozart in a blender

Mozart's OVERT-ture

Program Note

Desperate times asks for desperate measures. The year is 2020, we can’t do opera inside at the University of Louisville, so everyone learns small portions of three Mozart operas. In the spring of 2021, we decide to mash them up in a crazy, Franken-opera-stein mashup opera. They needed an overture, and so I decided to try my hand at a PDQ Bach-esq experience.

The arrangement mashups the overtures for The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute, and Cosi fan tutti with a dash of Don Giovanni. Lots of transcribing and trying to find clever or not so clever ways to cut from one opera to another. If you know the operas, this is sacrilegious, and if you don’t, it all probably sounds the same.
